ALOR SETAR: Former Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) City Campus director Prof Datuk Mohd Yusof Kasim has been appointed the new rector of the problem-ridden Kolej Universiti Insaniah (Kuin).
Mentri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said the 59-year-old was chosen by a special state government committee.
“He has been briefed on the problems in Kuin,” Mukhriz told reporters after a meeting with Kedah teachers here yesterday.
“He comes with good credentials and I believe he is capable of implementing various approaches to resolve issues in the college university. We are confident that he would be able to steer Kuin to greater heights.”
Mukhriz also launched Kedah’s “Top Five” education aspiration by 2015.
Prof Mohd Yusof, from Negri Sembilan, has held various posts prior to his appointment as rector, including as vice-chancellor of the Asia Pacific University College of Technology and Innovation, chairman of the Council of vice-chancellors of Private Universities in Malaysia and professor of economics and visiting professor of Hebei Normal University, China.
Prof Mohd Yusof, who was appointed to the post on Monday, said he had held meetings with Kuin’s academic and administration staff to understand the issues in that college.
“My immediate focus will be on the university’s administration,” he said.
